Duino Aurisina- Italy

Duino Aurisina is an area rich in archaeology continuously at least from the Neolithic to the current era. Notable is San Giovanni in Tuba, a Mediaeval church, with strong Templar connections, built on an early Christian church, itself built over a spring. Remnants of buildings, a mosaic floor and frescoed chamber are revealed in the apse.  There are several sanctuaries located within a short distance. Their nature and finds suggest that the area in which the 40km long, subterranean Timavo river flows forth from the limestone cliffs, has been regarded as spiritually important since the Neolithic.
